Dong Ding tea hails from the Lugu region of Nantou County in central Taiwan, and is more or less the original place for growing oolong in the country. Though the altitude is not as high as Lishan or most Alishan tea farms, the environment is well suited for tea and production there has stood the test of time.
Traditionally Dong Ding is a more roasted tea, and this is no exception. The flavors here are very smooth, rounded out with the roast and a bit of age as well. While it isn't old enough to have a significantly strong "Lao cha" taste, it is definitely heading in that direction and a bit of time will certainly do it well. As this is a roasted tea it needn't be drunk so quickly after opening, and likewise it isn't stored in a vacuum-sealed bag so the flavors can continue to meld and settle together.
We were kindly given some of this tea at a very reasonable rate from a farmer friend, and so we're offering it here at a similarly discounted price. If you like your teas more on the roasty side, then this is definitely for you! In the colder months it's hard to imagine a better fit than a roasted oolong.
Comes in 75g bags.
