Oriental Beauty, also known as Dongfang Meiren and Baihao in Chinese, is an unroasted and highly oxidized oolong tea from Taiwan's northern Hsinchu county. It is a favorite tea among many casual drinkers here in Taiwan.
Production of Oriental Beauty begins after the tea leaves have been bitten by an insect called the tea jassid. The jassid's bite releases compounds in the leaves that enhance the texture of the resulting liquor while simultaneously adding a distinct honeyed quality to the tea. The flavor is naturally sweet and floral without being overpowering.
This is a sweet, floral tea which brews thick and full of flavor. Oriental Beauty can last quite a while in storage and as it ages the dominant flavors tend to go from floral to fruity as it ages. If you haven't tried any Oriental Beauty before, we highly recommend it. This is a classic example of a famous Taiwanese tea.
